He is drunk and abusive and she has been hit one too many times.  Still, she dreads leaving because he has threatened to hurt the dog and kill the cat if she does.  She can’t take her pets with her to a family shelter, and she won’t leave them behind.  A safe house will offer her and the children a temporary haven, but who will shelter the pets?   Now thanks to a cooperative agreement with the Metro Abuse Link Coalition, the Nebraska Humane Society can offer help.  We work to arrange temporary kenneling until pets can be reunited with loving owners.  There is no charge.  What we ask is that women who have used the service let other women know it is available.  Now, simply because you can’t take them with you—doesn’t mean they’ll be left behind.
